ACTIVITY: RECITATION COMPETITION ( 29TH APRIL ) 2011 UKG
A poem might be defined as thinking about feelings - about human feelings and frailties. - ANNE STEVENSON
"Play is what we want to do. Work is what we have to do." said W. H. Auden. Poetry is both of those things. Robert Frost, in fact, defined poetry as "serious play." Poetry is the liveliest use of language, and nobody knows more instinctively how to take delight in that playfulness than children.
Children love rhymes, word games, and the magic effects of verse. Keeping this in mind a “Recitation Competition” was conducted in UKG on 29th April 2011.
Children were asked to recite any poem of their choice in English. All the children participated enthusiastically in this activity.
Poetry is a wonderful tool in the development of language, reading and writing. Such activities help children to see the relationship between oral and written language and assist in developing listening and concentration skills.

ACTIVITY REPORT
EVENT - RHYME COMPETITION DATE - 29TH APRIL 2011 VENUE - LKG CLASS ROOMS
Nursery rhymes continue to be a part of childhood - pre-school-education. It help to teach children musical and language awareness. Teaching of nursery rhymes not only help the kids to speak properly but it also helps them to express their feelings by making facial expressions and gestures. So this is the first step in which we teach our kids how to express their feelings without using formal ways of communication. So we can say that nursery rhymes are not just like a mere time pass but it is really very important for child's communication skills and developing his or her ways of expressing. More over teaching a child nursery rhymes and making him or her speak in front of the public can increase their confidence level.
In our school we made an endeavour to make learning more fun for the children, through a recitation competition. All the LKG children participated enthusiastically. Children were asked to come forward and recite any rhyme of their choice. Stars and smiles were given as an encouragement.
